Every month, Special Collections and Archives will highlight some of our newly processed collections. Here are some of the highlights for March.

UNLV students, faculty, and staff are invited to utilize the new drop-in consultation hours being offered by our Research, Innovation, and Creation staff.

For the Spring Semester, drop-in consultations will be offered in the Makerspace on the first floor of Lied Library on Tuesdays from 10:00 am to noon and Wednesdays from 1:00 - 3:00 pm.

This past year saw the establishment of several major endowments to support the work of UNLV students, faculty, and staff through the UNLV University Libraries. The largest gift, the $5 million Beverly Rogers Rare Book Curator Endowment, will establish the first named curator position in the University Libraries, while also enhancing the rare books collection in Special Collections and Archives.

This collection highlight blog post was written by Jimmy Chang, an archival processing assistant on the Archival Backlog Elimination Project. Jimmy Chang received his bachelor's and master's degrees in architecture from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Architecture with a tract in hospitality design.

Join Dr. Sheila Bock (Department of Interdisciplinary, Gender, and Ethnic Studies), Student Diversity and Social Justice, and the University Libraries on Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 5-6:30 p.m. in the Goldfield Room at Lied Library. This hauntingly fun event will give visitors the opportunity to learn about the significance of Halloween and its connection to the supernatural.

Over the course of sorting and processing thousands of historic menus, I have come across nearly identical looking menus from completely different restaurants. These menus featured a design of visually stimulating patterns of dots that created a sort of optical illusion effect in the background of the interior, and even more interesting patterns on the back. Inside, different sections of the menu were neatly squared off and organized, with some of them accompanied by charming and detailed illustrations of food.
