What's New in Special Collections and Archives: Maria Pogee Papers

Every month, Special Collections and Archives will highlight some of our newly processed collections. Here are some of the highlights for May.

  • The Maria Pogee Papers (1942-2019) document the life and career of Argentinian born dancer, choreographer, and actress, Maria Pogee. Pogee worked extensively in Argentina, Chile, Lebanon, around the United States and in Las Vegas, Nevada. Materials include press clippings, show programs, correspondence, and photographs representing Pogee's entertainment career such as her work in the stage production of Peter Pan and choreography for Juliet Prowse and Shirley MacLaine. Other materials include various unproduced show concepts with designs, storyboards, and scripts that she worked on with costume designer José Luis Viñas. Materials also include scrapbooks documenting her dance career dating from 1952 to 2009 which contain original correspondence, programs, photographs, and newsclippings. Materials also document Pogee's life and career outside of entertainment including her work directing fashion shows, operating a tourism company, and as a yoga instructor.

  • The Patricia Craig Papers (approximately 1941-1989) contain photographs from Las Vegas, Nevada dancer and showgirl Patricia (Pat) Craig. The collection includes early photographs of her family, Craig as a young ballet dancer, and her high school diploma. The majority of the photographs are Craig in costume on stage, candid photographs of her at home, and professional modeling shots. There are a small amount of newspaper clippings and magazines regarding Craig's appearances in Las Vegas shows, and her diploma from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

William Barak Collection, approximately 1962-1989. MS-01181. Special Collections and Archives, University Libraries, University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Las Vegas, Nevada. Explore the complete William Barak finding aid.

  • The William Barak Collection (approximately 1962-1989) contains photographs of Barak and colleagues while working E.G.&G. at the Nevada Test Site and in Alaska from the NERVA (Nuclear Rocket) Division and the last two tests in Amchitka (Milrow and Cannikin). The collection also contains numerous government publications, manuals, and maps relating to Barak's work. William S. Barak, Jr., was employed by E.G.&G. from 1962 until 1972, first in the NERVA (Nuclear Rocket) division, then the bomb testing site, including the last two Amchitka, Alaska tests as an Electrical Engineer.
