Year In Review: University Libraries Endowments

This past year saw the establishment of several major endowments to support the work of UNLV students, faculty, and staff through the UNLV University Libraries. The largest gift, the $5 million Beverly Rogers Rare Book Curator Endowment, will establish the first named curator position in the University Libraries, while also enhancing the rare books collection in Special Collections and Archives.

Supernatural Encounters From Around The Globe

Join Dr. Sheila Bock (Department of Interdisciplinary, Gender, and Ethnic Studies), Student Diversity and Social Justice, and the University Libraries on Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 5-6:30 p.m. in the Goldfield Room at Lied Library. This hauntingly fun event will give visitors the opportunity to learn about the significance of Halloween and its connection to the supernatural.

Makerspace, Multimedia Production Studios Open in Lied Library

Forget laptops and scientific calculators.

Starting this fall, UNLV students and faculty in any discipline will now have unprecedented access to 3D-printers, laser cutters, and podcasting and video recording studios as part of the Lied Library’s new Makerspace and Multimedia Production Studios. The new creative space is located on the library’s first floor.

The library will hold a ceremonial grand opening at 1 p.m. on Sept. 5, but the spaces are already open to the campus community.

Transfer Student Mixer Aug. 28

New and returning UNLV transfer students are invited to join the University Libraries for a Transfer Student Mixer on Wednesday, August 28 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. in the Goldfield Room at Lied Library.

Drop-in anytime during the event, meet other transfer students, and mix and mingle with library faculty, staff, and other campus experts.

Survey: Perceptions of University Faculty Members and Their Needs for Evidence Synthesis Services

UNLV faculty are invited to help the Systematic Review Task Force of the University Libraries by participating in a brief online survey, Perceptions of University Faculty Members and Their Needs for Evidence Synthesis Services. Your responses to the survey will help the task force determine faculty needs for evidence synthesis services at UNLV.

The central focus of this investigation is to gather information about faculty perceptions for evidence synthesis services to support instruction or research.

Eight UNLV Students Honored With 2020 Lance and Elena Calvert Awards For Undergraduate Research

The University Libraries are honoring eight UNLV undergraduate students as the winners of the 2020 Lance and Elena Calvert Awards for Undergraduate Research. The awards, funded through an endowment established by donors Lance and Elena Calvert, encourage undergraduate UNLV students to master the art of research to become successful, self-sufficient, lifelong learners.

Health Sciences Librarians Receive NNLM PSR Express Outreach Award

Kathryn Houk, Health Literacy & Community Engagement Librarian, Xan Goodman, Health Sciences Librarian and Laura Valentino, Southern Nevada Health District Academic Affairs Coordinator, received a $7,024 National Network of Libraries of Medicine Pacific Southwest Region Express Outreach Award to support "Building a Healthier Las Vegas through Participatory-Based Creation of Community Health Workforce Training."
