UNLV Music Library Highlighted Venues: The Kimmel Center

The Kimmel Center is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Its creation came about in 1996 as the Philadelphia Orchestra and Mayor Edward Rendell worked together to not only find a permanent home for the orchestra, but also give space to traveling prominent performers. 

Many large venues can be found within the Kimmel Center. One being Verizon Hall, a 2,500- seat concert hall, along with an upgraded Academy of Music (2,900 seats) and Merriam Theater (1,841 seats). Not to mention its smaller spaces like Perelman Theater (650 seats) and a black box theater, SEI Innovation Studio. 

Within the performing arts center, there are eight resident companies. These are, The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Philly Pops, PHILADANCO, The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, The Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, Curtis Institute of Music, Opera Philadelphia and finally, the Pennsylvania Ballet.
