What's New in Special Collections: George Lee Papers

Every month, Special Collections and Archives will highlight some of our newly processed collections. Here are some of the highlights for October.

  • The George Lee Papers (approximately 1925-2024) consist of materials documenting the life of professional ballet dancer and blackjack dealer George Lee. The materials include photographic prints, show programs and advertisements, newspaper articles about Lee’s performances, scrapbooks, postcards, and correspondence. The photographs depict Lee’s family and childhood; dance rehearsals; travel; professional headshots, and promotional stills of various performances, including The Nutcracker and Flower Drum Song. Also included in the collection are materials detailing the promotion and release of Jennifer Lin's 2024 film about George Lee titled “Ten Times Better,” including a photograph album, newspaper and magazine articles, and digital files of Lin’s interviews with Lee.

  • The Crockett Family Photographs (1911-2022) consist of photographic prints, newspaper articles, and scrapbooks documenting Alamo Airport (later Harry Reid International Airport) and the Crockett family. Photographs of the interior, exterior, and airfield at Alamo Airport, including aerial views, document the early stages of what is now one of the busiest international airports in the United States. A significant portion of the collection consists of photographs of the Crockett family at their home in Las Vegas, at various events, and on family vacations. The collection contains photographs and documents from Hidden Well Ranch, a private resort located south of the airport, and the Crockett family’s Lazy Flying C Ranch on Bermuda Road. Also included in the collection are audiovisual materials depicting events and locations around Las Vegas, including Fremont Street, Hoover Dam, the Miss Rodeo America pageant, and the Sahara Cup boat races on Lake Mead.
