Hurricane Katrina Project

Submitted by Claytee White, Director of the Oral History Research Center

As we locate Katrina survivors who have found their way to Las Vegas, we are engaging them in conversation with hopes of contacting these same people two to three years in the future. The devastation is mind boggling and becomes even more apparent as we gather these interviews. As soon as Katrina occurred, the Oral History Research Center was interested in collecting stories. A few weeks later, I conducted a workshop for a class in the University College, and a student had the same desire. So we are working with this student volunteer, Hillary Pichon, as he learns to conduct oral interviews that will be used in his capstone project.
