New Open Access Publishing Opportunities Available for UNLV Researchers

A UNLV banner on the side of Lied Library behind leaves on a tree.

UNLV researchers now have two new opportunities to publish open access articles without paying publication fees.

  • JMIR Publications cover topics such as healthcare technologies, patient and caregiver education, participatory medicine, biomedical engineering, and medical informatics.
  • Emerald Publishing emphasizes social science, business, and management.

These new agreements join a growing list of open access agreements between the University Libraries and scholarly publishers. Open access publishing makes research freely available worldwide, helping increase the visibility and impact of UNLV scholarship while supporting the university's Top Tier and Carnegie R1 goals.

Publishing in JMIR

Through this agreement, UNLV researchers can publish open access articles in JMIR journals without paying article processing charges (APCs). All articles accepted for publication between March 1, 2026 and February 28, 2027, with a UNLV-affiliated corresponding author, are eligible for this agreement. Visit the JMIR Publications website for a full list of eligible journals and instructions for participating in the program.

Publishing in Emerald

Eligible UNLV researchers can publish open access articles in participating Emerald journals without paying publication fees. The agreement covers both fully open access journals and many subscription journals that offer an open access publishing option. Articles accepted for publication on or after January 1, 2026, are eligible. Visit the Emerald Publishing website for additional details about the agreement.
