Summary: This 2 reel collection contains newspaper articles, investigations, and miscellaneous documents. In 1968, Chavez led a strike by grape pickers in California's central valley, which led to a boycott of table grapes. It is estimated that 17 million Americans joined the boycott. The strike ended late in 1970, when growers, under tremendous economic pressure, agreed to a 3 year contract with the Union. During the height of membership in the early 1970's approximately 40,000 farm workers were enrolled in the UFW. This collection would be of interest to scholars researching U.S. history, labor history, social history, and ethnic studies.
