Summary: Organized in 1846, this society had as its objective the publication of original narratives of important voyages, travels, expeditions, and other geographical records. The collection is wide reaching and is not restricted to a particular age, region, or group of travelers. For example, voyages include those of Christopher Columbus, Vasco da Gama, Sir Richard Hawkins, Hernando de Soto, and Captain James Cook. Materials are of particular interest to students of history, geography, navigation, and ethnology.
Finding Aids: Each narrative has its own index on the last card of each microfiche set. Annual reports are appended to some of the volumes. Guide is available at Microforms Assistance Counter.
