Summary: This 25 reel collection documents the movement of African Americans into Northern industry during and immediately after World War I. The exodus of blacks northward to take advantages of new work opportunities has been termed the "Great Migration." Records, drawn from various federal agencies, relate to agricultural labor, industrial work, unionism, housing, race relations, war veterans and their search for work, and the process of migration from the South to the North. They provide insight into social conditions, class, and post World War I. rural to urban migration.
