Support the UNLV Food Pantry, Wipe Out Overdue Student Fines

Stacks of canned food on the shelves at the UNLV Food Pantry.

The University Libraries, in partnership with the Teaching and Learning Commons and the UNLV Food Pantry, is helping combat food insecurity and eliminate student debt through the relaunched Food for Fines program.

Now through January 31, each unopened, unexpired non-perishable food item donated to the Libraries will remove $10 from existing student library overdue fines. If we reach our goal of collecting 400 items, we will eliminate all current student overdue fines.

Only student fines are eligible for forgiveness, but all UNLV community members are encouraged to donate to help meet the 400-item challenge. Eligible fines only include overdue fines for UNLV books, DVDs, reserve items, and interlibrary loan materials.

Donations may be dropped off at the Lied Library Circulation Desk. Items must be shelf-stable, unopened, undamaged and unexpired. Suggested donations include canned proteins, vegetables, fruits, cereals, boxed meals, baking items, and other pantry staples. The UNLV Food Pantry also accepts toiletries such as shampoo, toothpaste, soap and feminine hygiene products, which also qualify for fine reduction.

All donations benefit the UNLV Food Pantry. For questions about Food for Fines, visit our website or contact Ingrid Ruffin or Brett Nafziger.
