Podcast Assignment Resource for Faculty

Podcast assignment resources

This page shares resources created by UNLV Libraries faculty and staff that will provide guidance and structure for instructors interested in developing assignments for students to create podcasts in their classes. We highly encourage you to adapt any resources to best suit your needs, as these resources are not meant to be prescriptive or limiting in nature.

We’d love for you to share those adaptations with us if you wish by emailing david.ramos-candelas@unlv.edu.

Designing podcasting assignments

Why podcasting?

  • Research shows that students feel an increased sense of ownership and pride over work that has a broad audience.
  • Students gain research, attribution, and synthesis skills while sharing paywalled information in a fun and familiar setting.
  • Students will develop familiarity with modern information technology.

How can I design a podcasting research assignment?

  • Review this partnerships framework to identify the depth of podcasting assignment you are interested in designing and to get a sense of how much involvement to expect from students and library faculty and staff.
  • Review this sample rubric for an example of how to assess student podcast assignments. Use it as is or make a copy in your Google Drive to adapt it to suit your needs.
  • This resource guide contains information on pre-production, recording, post-production, and library resources.

What might these look like?

Below are some examples
