Le Théâtre Antique d’Orange

Le Théâtre Antique d’Orange, or The Roman Theatre of Orange, is located in Rhône Valley, France. Originally built under the rule of the Roman Empire, the theater is so well preserved that it is still used for performance today. This outdoor theater is just over 112 yards long, nearly 2 yards thick, and 40.5 yards tall. The velum of this large theater acts as a canopy to protect the audience from the sun and rain, and the stage wall helps to reflect sound to the audience as well. The terraces, or seating area, were carved out of the hillside, and can seat 10,000 people.
