Transforming Open Access: UNLV's Growing Suite of Author Support for OA Publishing Through Read & Publish Agreements

Thursday, October 28, 10:00-11:30 a.m.

License agreements between scholarly publishers and academic libraries are slowly moving away from traditional agreements to "transformative agreements." Over the past two years, large academic consortia, such as the California Digital Library, and academic libraries have entered into "Read and Publish" agreements. The "Read and Publish" agreements increase public availability of scholarly research, via open access, but at what cost?

This presentation will explore the concept of "Read & Publish" agreements and preview what the University Libraries are doing in regards to open access and Read & Publish agreements.

Presenter: Cory Tucker, Head of Continuing Resources & Collections, UNLV Libraries

Open Access Week Workshops

Open Access Week is an opportunity for open access advocates to engage their communities to teach them about the potential benefits of Open Access, to share what they’ve learned with colleagues, and to help inspire wider participation in helping to make Open Access a new norm in scholarship and research. To learn more about Open Access at UNLV, visit our Open Access guide.

Introduction to Open Access Publishing

Tuesday, October 26, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

This workshop will introduce participants to open access article publishing including paid and free options and what choosing one or the other means for authors. Participants will learn tips for finding open access journals and how to make their articles published in traditional subscription-based journals open access for free.

Open Access Drop In Session: Ask Us Anything About Open Access

Wednesday, October 27, 1:00-2:00 p.m.

The Scholarly Communication and Data Services department invites UNLV researchers to ask us their questions about open access publishing. The sessions will be structured with a brief introduction to the topic at the beginning and on the half-hour, and will move on to participant questions in the order received. Participants may join (and leave) at any time during the hour, but will miss the introduction if they join after the half-hour mark.
