This temporary student assistant position is scheduled between 10 and 15 hours per week. Scheduled shifts are dependent on the student assistant’s availability and the operational priorities and needs of the division and/or department.

Purpose of the position

As a Multimedia Student Assistant you will be an important team member of the Research, Innovation, and Creation department. This department is made up of four service points: Multimedia, Makerspace, Computer Help Desk, and the Reference Desk. The purpose of this position is to provide operational and instructional support for students, faculty, and staff working on media projects such as podcasting, music recording, video recording, post-production, and related tasks.

Duties & responsibilities
  • Provide excellent customer service to our diverse group of library patrons
  • Master the fundamental operations of hardware and software found in the studios
  • Assist users with audio and video production software
  • Assist users with studio equipment setup
  • Assist users with file transferring 
  • Deliver instruction in a variety of settings
  • Create and maintain learning guides and support materials
  • Monitor and maintain multimedia equipment
  • Assist patrons with computer tasks like printing and digitizing
  • Enforce consistent policies and workflows for services
  • Perform light facility maintenance
  • Record statistics of user interactions
  • Answer basic informational and directional questions

Qualifications

Required:

  • Contribute professionally and respectfully to a diverse and inclusive work environment
  • Interest in multimedia technologies such as music production, podcasting, and video production
  • Willingness to learn technologies and develop skills to support Multimedia and the Computer Help Desk
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision

Preferred:

  • Customer service experience 
  • Previous library or audio/video production experience
  • Familiarity with digital audio workstations such as Ableton, FL Studio, Logic Pro X, and Adobe Audition
  • Familiarity with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere, iMovie, and Final Cut Pro
  • Familiarity with the Adobe Suite
