Joseph DeMeis Mr. DeMeis has 40 years of professional experience in design work. Before retirement, he developed imaginative and artistic themes while also addressing retail centers, such as Caesar's Palace Forum Shops and the Magical Empire. He was responsible as senior art director for completing the Red Sea Astrarium project in Jordan for RGH Themed Entertainment. Mr. DeMeis has had the opportunity to work with the best designers and art directors in the industry on such projects as The Wonderful World of Oz, Ghostbusters in Universal Studios, Florida, Fantasia Lagoon in Bangkok, Thailand and Walt Disney Imagineering. As an Imagineer, he developed attractions for Tokyo Disney, Disney World, Disneyland and EPCOT Center. He has learned a great deal and hopes to pass on his knowledge to the next generation. He considers working for Walt Disney to be one of the highlights of his career, in addition to acting as one of the original founders of Landmark Entertainment. While with Landmark, he had a hand in the creative concept development and art direction for a range of projects, including themed hotels, motion pictures, Broadway theatrical productions, and major destination theme parks and museums. He was happy to have been a part of developing a destination resort with RGH, where he worked internationally, as well as within the U.S. His plans now are to further his career on a new venture to developing other themed attractions for the country and the world. Latinx Voices of Southern Nevada Oral History Project |
Moises "Mo" Denis is a Cuban American born in Brooklyn, New York. He served as the first Latino Majority Leader in the Nevada State Senate and has been involved in public service for over 30 years. As a leader in the Church of Latter Day Saints and his involvement with supporting Latinx initiatives, Mo has been able to increase the representation of Latinos in politics and support educational reform. While early on his family moved around a lot, they finally settled in Las Vegas and have continued to grow their family. Mo is a Rancho High School alum and went on to graduate from Brigham Young University as a music major. He first started his career by opening a music store, but later began working in the tech industry. Eventually, through his involvement in the PTA, Mo was appointed to serve on the Clark County Library Board. There he was involved in increasing access to libraries and advocating for the East and North Las Vegas community. Afterwards, he gained a seat as an assemblyman for the Nevada Legislature where he would eventually continue his career as a Nevada State Senator. Currently, Mo is in his final term as a state senator and working on reforming the funding formula for public education in order to improve education quality in Nevada.
