<bioghist encodinganalog="545"><head>Organization History</head><p>The Daughters of Union Veterans Tent 79 was organized on April 7, 1948 with sixteen charter members. As a non-profit organization, they provided medical books for hospitals, wheel chairs and other medical supplies for veterans and their families. The D.U.V. founded two scholarships for descendants of Union veterans and provided United States flags for schools and civic organizations. A primary goal of having Highway 6 renamed “The Grand Army of the Republic Highway” (Nevada was the only state that had not yet done so by 1948) was accomplished in 1953.</p></bioghist><scopecontent encodinganalog="520"><head>Scope and Content</head>
