This student assistant position is a part-time, temporary position scheduled for up to 10 hours per week, contingent on budget funding. Scheduled shifts are dependent on the student assistant’s availability and the operational priorities and needs of the division and/or department.

Purpose of the position

This position is responsible for audio production for virtual reality learning experiences, environments, and platforms. This position reports to the Immersive Learning Supervisor.

This role is ideal for a graduate student interested in gaining experience in interactive audio composition, sound design, and immersive/emerging technology environments.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Compose original music and score elements for virtual reality learning experiences
  • Design and produce sound effects, ambient soundscapes, and foley for immersive VR environments
  • Integrate and implement audio assets within VR development platforms (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine, Wwise, or FMOD)
  • Mix and master audio tracks to ensure quality and consistency across VR experiences
  • Collaborate with the student content development team to align audio with narrative and interaction design
  • Test and refine audio implementation directly within VR headsets to ensure spatial accuracy and immersion
  • Other audio production and creative duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required:

  • Currently enrolled graduate student at UNLV
  • Experience composing original music and/or sound design
  • Proficiency with a Digital Audio Workstation (e.g., Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Pro Tools)
  • Understanding of audio design principles for interactive or game engine environments
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to incorporate creative feedback
  • Able to manage multiple projects and meet production deadlines

Preferred:

  • Experience with game audio middleware (e.g., Wwise, FMOD) and/or Unity or Unreal Engine
  • Portfolio demonstrating prior composition, scoring, or sound design work
