Celebrate the freedom to read with this month’s curated book display at the Teacher Development & Resources Library.
The display features books by artists who have chosen to speak truth to power, as well as works that explore difficult subjects such as racism, homophobia, corruption, and oppressive patriarchy.
In some countries, books like these are censored, kept from publication, or made unavailable for purchase. Under the most repressive governments, simply possessing them can be a crime.
The First Amendment protects our freedom to celebrate artists who speak up and to explore difficult or controversial subjects through novels, graphic novels, and nonfiction.
We have these books because we have the freedom to read.
