This temporary student assistant position is a part-time position scheduled up to 20 hours per week, depending on budget funding. Scheduled shifts are dependent on the student assistant’s availability and the operational priorities and needs of the division and/or department.

Purpose of the position

This position supports the design, development, and maintenance of immersive learning content used across XR experiences, courses, and initiatives. The VR Content Development Assistant works closely with Immersive Learning staff, faculty partners, and student teams to create, refine, and document VR content that supports teaching, learning, and storytelling goals.

Responsibilities include assisting with VR content creation workflows, asset organization, basic scene building, testing experiences, and documenting development processes. The role emphasizes creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning with immersive technologies while supporting the broader mission of student-centered, experiential education.

Duties & responsibilities

Design

  • Assist with building and modifying VR scenes using approved platforms and tools (I.e., Unity).

Development

  • Support the development of VR and immersive learning content for instructional, experiential, and research-based projects.
  • Test VR experiences for usability, performance, accessibility, and instructional clarity.
  • Assist with capturing screenshots, screen recordings, and media for documentation or promotional use.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute creative ideas for immersive storytelling.
  • Maintenance

    • Help organize, manage, and maintain digital assets including 3D models, audio files, textures, scripts, and documentation.
    • Document workflows, processes, and project notes to support continuity and knowledge sharing.
    • Maintain organized project files and follow established naming and storage conventions.

    Engagement

    • Collaborate with other student workers, staff, and faculty on immersive learning initiatives.
    • Communicate progress, challenges, and questions to the supervisor in a timely manner.
    • Demonstrate curiosity and willingness to learn new tools, platforms, and techniques.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Contribute professionally and respectfully to a diverse and inclusive work environment.
  • Willingness to learn technologies and develop skills to support VR equipment and systems, and quality-test VR experiences.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a small creative team
  • Strong attention to detail and organization
  • Interest in immersive technologies, digital storytelling, or game design
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision.

Preferred:

  • Majoring in college of visual arts, architecture, engineering, entertainment engineering and design, or computer science.
  • Experience with Unity, Unreal, 3D modeling tools, or XR platforms.
