Faculty and instructors are invited to apply for the Faculty Institute for Open Pedagogy Research Assignments, scheduled for May 18 & 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Goldfield Room at Lied Library. Hosted by the University Libraries, this two-day institute will explore the benefits of open pedagogy and how to develop assignments that situate students as creators of knowledge with potential community impact.

Faculty will adapt or create one assignment to encourage students to create research artifacts with a broad audience, such as Wikipedia pages, podcasts, zines, creative data sets, or websites.

This institute will highlight the ways departments across the library engage in this work via potential collaborators from Scholarly Communication and Data Services; Research, Innovation, and Creation; Special Collections, and Digital Collections.

Who should attend?

This institute is open to all UNLV faculty who teach undergraduate and graduate courses. Graduate assistants who teach are welcome to attend with the support of their program coordinator. Program coordinators are encouraged to attend with another instructor in their program. The institute is of particular interest to any faculty with an interest in research assignments that situate students as creators of knowledge while imparting practical skills beyond paper-writing.

Selected participants who complete the institute will receive a $500 stipend.
