Brittani Sterling, Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies Librarian at UNLV Libraries, has been named a 2025 Library Journal Mover & Shaker, one of 50 library professionals across the U.S. recognized for innovation and leadership in the field.

Sterling was honored in the Educators category for her work to develop inclusive programming that broadened the reach of library services to more UNLV students and faculty. She significantly expanded the Rebel+ Workshop series, growing it into one of the Libraries’ most visible programs with more than 1,000 participants annually.

She has contributed to national conversations on equity in librarianship through publications, including a co-authored article on mid-career librarians of color and a chapter in the anthology Creating an Inclusive Library. Sterling also contributed to the development of the award-winning We Need to Talk series on racism and equity, which has been streamed more than 4,000 times.

In recognition of her leadership, she was selected for the Association of Research Libraries’ 2022–23 Leadership and Career Development Program. Sterling earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Wittenberg University, a Master of Science in Human Services from Capella University, and a Master of Library and Information Science from North Carolina Central University. She joined the faculty at UNLV Libraries in 2019, and will be promoted to associate professor on July 1.

The Library Journal Movers & Shakers award honors 50 individuals each year who are transforming libraries and shaping the future of the profession. Launched in 2002, the program recognizes emerging leaders across all library types for their innovation, resilience, and lasting impact on institutions and community.

Library Journal’s 2025 Movers and Shakers represent the best of the creative, inspiring, visionary, and committed individuals who are advancing the library field,” said Hallie Rich, editor-in-chief of Library Journal.

Founded in 1876, Library Journal is a leading trade publication serving the library profession with news, reviews and analysis across public, academic, and school libraries.
