This temporary student assistant position is a part time position scheduled up to 20 hours per week depending on budget funding. Scheduled shifts are dependent on the student assistant’s availability and the operational priorities and needs of the division and/or department.
The Immersive Learning Initiatives at the University Libraries is looking for dynamic individuals to join our team performing a variety of operational and technical activities necessary to support the new Immersive Learning Initiatives including the Dreamscape Learn Virtual Reality (VR) platform. Immersive learning encompasses extended realities including, virtual reality, mixed reality, and augmented reality implemented into higher education. One vein of immersive learning is Dreamscape Learn. Dreamscape Learn (DSL) brings impactful, narrative-based virtual reality experiences to students by merging the most advanced experiential pedagogy with the entertainment industry’s best cinematic storytelling. These services include providing virtual reality experiences for students, faculty, staff, and community. The primary purpose of the Immersive Learning Student Assistants is to provide excellent customer service to incoming patrons, to have a high attention to detail, and a willingness to learn how to operate VR equipment and systems. We are building a new team and are looking for students passionate about a future or career in virtual reality and game development.
- Carry out daily operations in the Dreamscape Learn spaces and ensure impactful VR experiences for learners and guests.
- Provide extended periods of focused attention on time sensitive tasks.
- Guide participants through virtual reality experiences from beginning to end.
- Assist guests with putting on and taking off VR gear, giving directions in a clear but friendly manner.
- Provide excellent customer service to participants to ensure a positive experience.
- Assist troubleshooting VR equipment including VR backpacks, VR headsets, infrared trackers, infrared cameras, etc.
- Assist Dreamscape Learn staff with special operations and research projects.
- Identify when issues need escalation, and report issues appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Perform regular testing and maintenance of all virtual reality areas and equipment.
- Assist participants with checking-in for scheduled VR events.
- Clean and reset all VR equipment between uses.
- Observe and operate events on the Dreamscape Learn schedule.
- Ensure appropriate opening and closing of the Dreamscape Learn facilities.
- Ensure cleaning and safety guidelines are followed according to UNLV standards.

- Must be self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision. Preferred:
- Majoring in college of visual arts, architecture, engineering, entertainment engineering and design, or computer science.
- Previous experience providing excellent customer service to a diverse customer base, preferably in an educational and/or retail setting.
- Previous experience providing technical support and problem solving for computer hardware and software.
- Previous experience using and troubleshooting VR headsets and other VR equipment.
- Previous experience monitoring and supporting a schedule of events in a high-volume environment.
- Evidence of effective communication with both technical and non-technical users.
