Lied Public Space Re-design Project - We Need Your Ideas

By Vicki Nozero on October 8, 2012 10:50 AM | Permalink

We need YOUR help! We've begun to look at the public spaces in Lied Library, especially on the first and second floors, for re-design and re-purposing.

In the next six weeks or so, Libraries' staff will be asking for your input in a variety of ways - comment cards, flip charts, surveys, observation. Please share your thoughts with us so that we can create new spaces that meet your research and study needs! Thanks in advance for your input.

The construction of the new Graduate Student Commons on the second floor of Lied Library is nearing completion.  The construction wall has come down and the beautiful new glass wall is causing a sensation and making a real statement about the importance of graduate students to the Libraries and on campus.  (See picture below.)  Furniture and equipment is being moved into the space, and completion of the project is expected by June 30.  The GPSA and Graduate College staff will be moving into their new space on July 9 and the Commons will be open for business on July 11.  A campus open house in the Commons is scheduled for the afternoon of September 12 with more details available as the date approaches.

Construction Update for April 20

By Vicki Nozero on April 30, 2012 4:44 PM | Permalink
Summary of Update:

  • Carbon Monoxide sensors have been installed at the temp walls to ensure that the air quality level is not adversely affected by the construction activities.

  • Construction continues in the graduate space on level 2.  Electrical rough-in will continue over the next two weeks.  HVAC rough-in will be complete around May 2nd.  Some drywall removal will take place early in the morning the week of April 30th to allow for new electrical and data to be installed.

  • Construction in the WDS Space on the third floor will be kicked off with framing activities the week of May 7th.

Construction Update for April 9th

By Vicki Nozero on April 5, 2012 3:43 PM | Permalink
Construction of the new Graduate Commons on the second floor of Lied Library will begin on or about April 9. Framing and layout of the space will take approximately 4 days and could result in noise disruptions, although the contractors plan to keep this disruption to a minimum by scheduling the work before Lied Library opens or prior to high usage periods.

There will be construction workers and material moving in and out of the area under construction. A Word document of the complete construction update is also available. For more information, contact Vicki Nozero at 895-2129 or victoria.nozero@unlv.edu

Lied Library Construction Project

Welcome to the Lied Library construction project webpage.  We will be using this page to communicate about the status of the various aspects of the project.  Since Lied Library has been open eleven years, there are many things that have changed about the way our students learn and the way we access information.  Over the next several months, there will be several projects to re-purpose our space to better meet your changing needs.  The part of the project with the most impact on our users is the creation of a new area for graduate and professional students on the second floor of Lied.  You probably noticed during fall 2011 that we emptied all the periodical shelving next to the elevators.
