Witt, Rosemary OH-02503 2005 March 11 History of Nursing in Southern Nevada Oral History Project part of MS-00784; On March 11th, 2005, Dr. Rosemary Witt (born in Columbia, Iowa) is interviewed by Maureen Madison-Kane and Dr. Margaret Louis, in her office in the School of Nursing on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Campus. The interview covers the history and growth of the UNLV School of Nursing and Dr. Witt’s recollections since relocating to Las Vegas in 1971. Witt discusses how drastically the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus has changed from the time she first arrived, stating that only Frazier Hall and the Grant Hall Student Union were here when she began working at UNLV. She states that the weather in Nevada helped her to make the permanent move from Seattle to Las Vegas. She was Chair of the department and the School of Nursing, and explains that as Chair she could not serve on some committees that she otherwise would have wanted to serve on. Rosemary compares UNLV’s nursing programs to some of the other local schools’ nursing programs, such as those at Touro University and the University of Southern Nevada. To conclude, Witt expresses her opinion on distance education, acknowledging its progression and purpose, yet adhering to her belief that in-classroom, hands on learning is the best educational option or route for nursing students in Nevada. yes 0

Wolters, Nina B. OH-02008 March 3, 2009 Blue Diamond Oral History Project This is the history of Blue Diamond Village. Blue Diamond is located 26 miles southwest of Las Vegas. The village, originally known as Cottonwood Springs, changed its name when the Blue Diamond Company took ownership of the Gypsum mine and built corporate housing for the workers in the early '20s. Near the base of the Red Rock canyon, Blue Diamond Village was originally a stop on the Old Spanish Trail for traders from Santa Fe, N.M., to California between 1830 and 1848, according to the history committee's findings. road for the The Blue Diamond School opened in 1929.
