Latinx Voices of Southern Nevada Oral History Project |
Daniel "Dan" Tafoya was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1968. Tafoya describes his neighborhood as tough and poor. Tafoya describes his story as intertwined with his father's, a man who served federal time in a prison in Washington state. When Tafoya's father left prison he turned his life around, leaving behind his old life, dedicating himself to an honest living and his oil paintings. As a result, Tafoya's father kept his children on the straight and narrow. Tafoya struggled in school due to his learning disabilities, however this did not stop him from joining the Air Force and having a very successful career. He spent 13 years in the military stationed at Nellis Airforce base. After leaving the military Tafoya began working in higher education, moving to work within CCSD and the Latin Chamber of Commerce. Subjects: Air Force, CCSD, Nellis Airforce Base, Albuquerque, New Mexico |
