Miller, Donna Phelps OH-01295 February 28, 2007 Blue Diamond Oral History Project This is the history of Blue Diamond Village. Blue Diamond is located 26 miles southwest of Las Vegas. The village, originally known as Cottonwood Springs, changed its name when the Blue Diamond Company took ownership of the Gypsum mine and built corporate housing for the workers in the early '20s. Near the base of the Red Rock canyon, Blue Diamond Village was originally a stop on the Old Spanish Trail for traders from Santa Fe, N.M., to California between 1830 and 1848, according to the history committee's findings. road for the The Blue Diamond School opened in 1929. Minero, Mariano OH-03530 2018 December 07 Latinx Voices of Southern Nevada Oral History Project Marinao Minero was born in a small town named San Juan in the state of La Paz in El Salvador. Minero was born to a humble farming family. Minero recalls spending his childhood helping his father harvest coffee and cotton. As Minero got older and the political climate worsened in El Salvador his family began to worry about his well being. Eventually Minero's grandmother decided to send him away to the states before war broke out in the small country. Minero arrived in Los Angeles, where he was able to find work in the hotel industry. In 2004, Minero made the move to Las Vegas to continue working in the hotel industry, this time however he found work within a union, something he always wanted. Minero keeps active in union, attending and participating in as many as events as he can. Interview conducted in Spanish. Born in Kalkota, West Bengal, India, youngest child in a businessman's household, Ashok Mirchandani graduated from the University of Calcutta with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. After arriving in Las Vegas in 2002, he worked with the State of Nevada under three Republican governors, eventually becoming Director of the Department of Business and Industry, where he focused on small business development and advocacy. He coordinated the Governor's Conference on Small Business, developed the Nevada Home Retention Program, and founded the non-profit United Citizens Foundation, which provides free mental health services to at-risk Clark County School District children. He promotes Asian political activism and chaired the Biden for President Nevada AAPI Leadership Council. Molen, Joanne Pattiani OH-02679 1997 January 25 Las Vegas Women Oral History Project F849.L35 M645 1997 In July of 1955, Joanne Molen's husband was offered a job at Nellis Air Force Base, so they moved from Alturas, California, to Las Vegas. Joanne had worked for Citizens Utilities in Alturas as a Western Union teletype operator, so she got a job with the Southern Nevada Telephone Company. She was the only woman to hold some of the positions she held. She worked for the telephone company, which became Sprint, for more than forty years, ending up as a main engineer. Joanne also was a volunteer and was active in community organizations including the American Ex-Prisoners of War and the Disabled American Veterans organizations, which lead to her being appointed by Governor Richard Bryan to the state of Nevada's Veterans Advisory Commission where she became the first woman to hold the position of chairman for the Commission. She was also voted Women of the Year four times by the local chapter of the American Business Women's Association for her work with veterans. yes 0

In that capacity, he met entertainers with no place to go for holidays and invited them home where the family was exposed to the Strip performer in a family fashion that was diverse and cosmopolitan. Family changed their home in Paradise Valley to green oasis with gardens, trees, and animals. Now lives in San Diego on the beach in retirement condo purchased before their retirement. no 0
