Research a company, an industry, or a country. This site covers over 350,000 publicly owned companies in the U.S. and abroad. Also covers 30 industries in 65 countries and over 100 foreign nations.


Provides access to Fortune magazine's annual 500 list. Other lists are available including the Global 500 list, America's Most Admired and 100 Fastest Growing list.


Provides basic information on companies including business description, history, small financial profiles, list of competitors and officers.


The most complete and up-to-date listing of Annual Reports and related financial reports online today. The site lists over 2,200 annual reports and covers the majority of the fortune 500 companies.

SEC Edgar Database of Corporate Information

Provides access to submissions by companies and others who are required by law to file forms with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Not all documents filed with the Commission are available on EDGAR. Companies have been phased in to EDGAR filing over a three-year period, ending May 6, 1996. As of that date, all public domestic companies are required to make their filings on EDGAR, except for filings made in paper because of a hardship exemption. Third-party filings, including tender offers and Schedules 13D, are also filed on EDGAR.

Thomas Register of American Manufacturers
  A directory of products and their manufacturers. Focuses is on industrial products. Free on the Web, but users must register.
Wall Street Research Net
  Contains information on publicly traded companies, including links to SEC documents, company home pages and annual reports. User can search by ticker symbol or name.



Baker Library Industry Guides


From Harvard University, contains extensive list of resources providing industry information. Covers a broad spectrum of different industries.

Covers sixty industry categories and their subdivisions. Provides links to company news and profiles, competitor information, industry organizations and events.


Covers 30 industries and 65 countries. Provides a list of companies, rankings, list of relevant links and a short write-up about the industry.

County Business Patterns

From the Census Bureau, this site contains annual data by industry sector for the U.S. Data is broken down to state and county. Statistics include employment, annual and first quarter payroll, total establishments and number of establishments by employment size.

Current Industrial Reports

Produced by the U.S. Census Bureau, this report provides detailed statistics on many products and materials in the manufacturing, mining, and construction industries.

Economic Census Data

Produced by the Census Bureau, this report is published every 5 years. Data is presented geographically and by industry category. Covers the number and size of establishments, sales, payroll and number of employees by industry category. Organized by NAICS and SIC code. Also available for specific industries such as mining, finance and insurance and utilities.

Hoover's Industry Snapshots

Hoover's has researched and written over 45 in-depth overviews of various industry groups. Each industry snapshot includes top ten companies in each market, industry news, links to associations and organizations and links to selected websites.
