The Teacher Development and Resources Library has partnered with the UNLV Gayle A. Zeiter Literacy Development Center and the UNLV College of Education to present the 2018 Gayle A. Zeiter Children's and Young Adult Literature Conference on Thursday, Feb. 8 from 4-7:30 p.m. in Lied Library. Caldecott Award-winning author and illustrator Javaka Steptoe will deliver the keynote address at the conference, with a special performance with Clark County's Poet Laureate Vogue Robinson.

This year's conference features a keynote by Steptoe titled "The Value of Imperfect Heroes." Steptoe's presentation will focus on the richness of life lessons to be learned in exploring the imperfect heroes and why those heroes can be presented as role models for our students.

As a special addition to the conference this year, Robinson will share some of her incredible poetry.

Breakout sessions and roundtables will provide opportunities to learn ways to share and teach with children’s and young adult literature, to explore diverse topics in literature, and to learn more about fostering writing in the classroom.

Tickets for the conference at $20 for general admission, $15 for CCSD teachers and librarians, and UNLV faculty and staff, and $10 for UNLV students. Tickets can be purchased online at
