By Michael Yunkin on September 11, 2015 2:28 PM | Permalink

What is the UNLV Libraries User Survey?
The UNLV Libraries is conducting a University wide survey for all faculty, graduate and undergraduate students.  This survey will seek to gauge the impact of digital technologies on research, teaching and publishing of the UNLV community.  The survey results will also help us understand our student’s expectations of coursework, assignments and higher education.

The UNLV Libraries survey will be conducted via Ithaka S&R.  Ithaka S&R  is a research and consulting service that helps academic, cultural, and publishing communities in making the transition to the digital environment.  They conduct surveys for campuses across the nation, and the information we gather from survey participants will allow us to benchmark our findings with other campuses.

Why is the UNLV Libraries surveying Faculty and Students?
The perspectives and understanding gained from this survey will be used to develop and assess our provision of information resources and services that support  faculty and students in their teaching, research, and learning needs.

How will I know if I have been invited to complete the survey?
The survey invitation will be sent out to all invited participants on October 5th, 2015.  The survey invite will go to your UNLV email accounts only - no personal or outside email accounts were included in the mailing list.

What if I accidently delete the email?
If you have not started the survey, or have started but not completed the survey, you will be sent reminder emails each week that the survey is open. You can also email unlvlibrarysurvey@unlv.edu if you need to request a link.

How long will it take to complete the survey?
The survey takes about 15-20 minutes to complete on average.

What if I cannot complete the survey in one sitting or accidently close my browser?
If you need to exit the survey or are prematurely exited for any reason, you can return via the email link sent to you.  You can continue from where you left off.

How long will the survey run?
The survey will open on October 5th, 2015 and will run until October 30th. You will receive reminders throughout the process.

What topics will the survey cover?
Faculty: Data preservation and management, materials types and formats, research topics and practices, undergraduate and graduate instruction, student research skills, access, and role of the library among other topics.

Students: Role of the library, undergraduate and graduate research, higher education objectives, coursework and academics and career goals among other topics.

How is privacy of participants protected?
Ithaka’s privacy policy is available for review on the web. In addition, the UNLV Libraries will be receiving anonymized reports and datasets.  The UNLV Libraries has been granted an IRB exemption to this study.   Further questions you may have regarding privacy can be emailed to unlvlibrarysurvey@unlv.edu

Presentation of Results
Results from the UNLV Libraries survey will be sent from Ithaka several weeks after the survey has closed.  We will share the results and reports with the public on our website.
