School of Medicine Library Exclusive Collections

The School of Medicine Library has collections at the Kirk Kerkorian Medical Education Building to support clinical reference, medical humanities, health literacy, and general wellness and relaxation. 

SOML Clinical Reference Titles

The School of Medicine Library has a collection of approximately 50 core clinical reference texts covering topics from general medicine to several specialties. These titles are available for use during library business hours. Contact medlib@unlv.edu to inquire about availability of specific titles.

Graphic Medicine Titles

The School of Medicine Library is one of the first medical libraries west of the Mississippi to have a dedicated online and physical collection of graphic novels that tell patient pathologies, physician perspectives, and caretaker stories. The current set of approximately 60 physical titles are located in the School of Medicine Library and are available on reserve for one week loan. Titles cover topics such as:

  • Autism & Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Aging & End of Life
  • Veteran Health & Life
  • LGBTQ+ Health, including HIV/AIDS
  • Adolescence and Childhood
  • Women’s Health, Fertility & Domestic Violence
  • Human Trafficking

Our leisure reading collection promotes wellness through providing titles that allow an escape from day-to-day stress, and our curated selection of health humanities titles provides a look into interesting and difficult social, ethical, and medical issues. Readers can find titles in our collection ranging from the Harry Potter series, works from physician-authors, and popular histories of medicine and health.

Health Humanities & Leisure Reading

The School of Medicine Library provides a selection of titles for relaxing and reading in your spare moments. The collection currently contains over 60 titles covering:

  • Stories by, or based on, healthcare professionals and their experiences
  • Historical and Scientific Non-Fiction
  • Fantasy, sci-fi, and classic fiction

Studies have shown that individuals who take time to read, particularly stories involving shared human struggles, increase their capacity for empathy, critical reasoning, and creative thought.

Mango Languages

An online Language learning resource with over 70 world languages and dialects offered through self-paced interactive courses that combine cultural insights and grammatical nuances delivered through native speaker dialogue. Limited accounts available on a first come first serve basis. Once all accounts are used, a review of additional accounts would take place during the next renewal cycle.
