Get Help - Borrowing, Renewal, & Fines

What if I want several items from LASR? Can I request that the entire print run of an old journal be pulled?

Only by submitting a separate request for each and every item you want. For example, if you wanted to get five different volumes of a bound journal out of storage, you would have to find each volume in the catalog, and submit a separate request for each volume.

How can I browse all items in LASR?

There really isn't any way to do this. The system is designed to let you retrieve particular items.

How do I get items out of LASR?

Find the item you want in the library catalog, and click the "request this item" button next to it. A request will be sent to a robotic arm, which will pull the bin in which the item you want is located. An operator will remove the item from the bin and place it at the LASR counter for you to pick up.

Check out our step-by-step instructions on getting an item out of LASR.

What kinds of things are in LASR?

  • Bound journals published before 1993
  • Certain documents published by the U.S. Government.
  • Some books with older publication dates
  • Some print indexes to journal articles (such as Chemical Abstracts).

How do I tell if an item is in LASR?

In the library catalog, the Location will read "UNLV LASR" and a "request this item" button will appear on the screen (view screenshot).

What is Lied Automated Storage and Retrieval Unit (LASR?)

LASR is a storage area where older or less used items are kept in order to make room on the shelves for newer material. It's located on the 1st floor of Lied Library, behind the glass wall opposite the reference desk.

Books and journals can be retrieved from LASR by using the Request This Item button in the catalog:
