Recently Released Second Edition of ‘Las Vegas Then and Now’ Showcases Libraries’ Talent, Collection

UNLV Libraries is not only rich with books and resources of every topic under the sun, but it also employs many published authors. Su Kim Chung, the manuscripts librarian in Special Collections, is a perfect example of this as the author of “Las Vegas Then and Now.”

The recently released second edition of “Las Vegas Then and Now” (Thunder Bay Press, 2012) significantly expands upon the concept of the enormously popular first edition, which paired archival photographs (many from UNLV Libraries Special Collections) of Las Vegas buildings and streets with current photographs of the same structures and locations.

New photos, locales, buildings and text chronicling Las Vegas’ history make this edition different from the 2002 edition. Although a black and white image of Fremont Street also graces the cover of the second edition, it showcases a twilight photo looking east as opposed to a night photo looking west. The popularity of the first edition made it a bestseller on and in bookstores and souvenir shops all over Las Vegas. Considering the world’s unending curiosity about Las Vegas, the second edition is sure to prove equally as popular.
