Full-text scripts of more than 1050 plays by 120 authors from Britain and Ireland, North America, India, Africa, Australia, and the Caribbean, indexed by subject and keyword-searchable. Coverage starts in the 1890s and goes through 2001. Strengths of this collection include Irish drama, off-Broadway and alternative theatre, political plays, and global and postcolonial theatre. The "Find Monologue" feature helps actors find good audition pieces.
- The Find Monologues search allows you to find speeches of 250 words or more within plays and single-speaker plays. Long speeches that are interrupted by stage directions or short interjections from other characters are also included in this search. This search allows you to look for a monologue by gender or name of speaker, play or playwright details, or by a combination of all of these. You can also limit your searches to verse or prose drama. To find this search, click on the search button located on the left hand side of the page and select Find Monologues.
- All keyword searches are by default exact phrase searches. This means that Twentieth-Century Drama looks for exact matches for all of the words you typed into the search box in the order entered. If you do not want Twentieth-Century Drama to treat your search words as an exact phrase, you should use the Boolean operators and, or, not.
- If you need help deciding what to enter into a search box, you can click the relevant Select from a list > link. This displays a list of appropriate terms for you to select, which are then transferred back to the relevant search box when you click Select. The Select from a list > links are located to the right of the search boxes.
