It's been a while since we've updated the blog, but we've been hard at work growing the collections. Here are just a few announcements about digitization projects at UNLV:
- Last year, we became an official department in the library! We've added two permanent staff and would like to welcome, Jane and Silvia. Jane has the important role of managing metadata in CONTENTdm as well as overseeing the general workflow and quality control in our collections. Silvia is our new Digital Collections Metadata Librarian is responsible for metadata design and development for the Libraries, in addition to her faculty responsibilities. Both new staff have already contributed a great deal to increased efficiencies and greater production in the department.
- We've also been working with several temporary, grant-funded staff and library school students. These folks dive into our projects, learn quickly, and do a fantastic job! We have so much fun to working with our interns and look forward to welcoming two of them back for a second year.
- We recently began work on a new grant-funded project called Dreaming the Landscape. This project will be focused on the impact Las Vegas architects have made worldwide on the field of resort architecture. The collection will feature architectural drawings and photograph collections highlighting some of the most significant structures in Las Vegas. The Libraries will also be investigating digitization outsourcing for a subset of the selected materials to increase the quality and quantity of drawings we can put online. The collection is scheduled to launch in Summer 2012.
- We've made a commitment to revitalize this blog with new entries every month and new guest bloggers. Stay tuned for more!
