University Libraries’ strategic collection development is a fundamental component of UNLV’s efforts to become a top tier research university. Providing access to datasets is one aspect of this collection development. The recently purchased Data-Planet Statistical Datasets is a web-based tool utilizing an easy-to-use interface to provide access to data from licensed and public domain datasets. Data-Planet contains more than 18.9 billion data points from 3.9 billion time series, sourced from more than 70 organizations. There are billions of charts, maps, views, rankings, time series, and tables available for use. With this dynamic tool a user can mine the data including scanning the contents of specific data collections, search by selected subjects and variables of interest, and view data in side-by-side tables and charts.
Data-Planet may be accessed from the UNLV University Libraries website under all Library Databases. For more information on specific datasets and how to use Data-Planet, visit the Data-Planet Library Guide. For a sample report from Data-Planet, click on this file: samplereport.pdf.
The Libraries has several other data sets that provide information for business and economics; U.S and International data; Nevada and local data; Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM); and Health Data. For more information, please visit the UNLV Libraries’ Data & Statistics Library Guide.
