On November 14-15, teams of librarians and administrators from 32 research universities from the Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA) met at Lied Library for a symposium exploring how GWLA libraries are impacting student learning on their campuses. The two-day event was keynoted by Dean of Libraries, Patricia Iannuzzi, and UNLV’s Director of General Education, Dr. Chris Heavey. Approximately 100 attendees participated in sessions on learning assessment, campus collaborations and partnerships, and research demonstrating academic libraries’ impact on student learning. Another trio of UNLV librarians offered a well-attended workshop on “Curriculum Mapping to Integrate and Communicate Information Literacy Learning” (Fabbi, Rinto, and Fawley). The UNLV Libraries—with their emphasis on the educational role of libraries—have provided strong leadership to GWLA member institutions in the area of student learning.
