UNLV Hosts “Night at the Libraries” Event for National History Day

“It took one phone call,” Brian stated, “and Anne had her team on board.”

When Clark County School District (CCSD) program facilitator, Brian Boothe, contacted Anne Zald, Head of Educational Initiatives at the UNLV Libraries, to set up “Night at the Libraries,” an event that would complement a series of others that took K-12 students through community museums, Anne Zald eagerly set a plan in motion that would introduce university library research to area students and their families.

Echoes of The Rebel Yell: Digitizing UNLV’s Student Newspaper

For nearly sixty years, every Runnin’ Rebel has had the privilege of reading UNLV’s award-winning student newspaper, The Rebel Yell. Student writers may or may not have realized that their articles, while written to serve immediate information needs, would also become a rich historical record. With a grant from the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) and financial support from Consolidated Students of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (CSUN) and the UNLV Graduate & Professional Student Association (GPSA), these archives are being preserved for posterity by UNLV Libraries.

Head of Architecture Studies Library Wins Prestigious Award

Architecture Library head Caroline Smith’s recent book, Lifelong Learning for Engineers and Scientists in the Information Age, helps engineering educators, advisors, and supervisors of engineering interns create stronger team projects and training workshops. She and her co-authors have been awarded the 2013 Best Publication Award by a division of the American Society of Engineering for their contributions designing learning experiences that work for engineers with any level of experience. 

UNLV Gaming Press Takes Flight at University Libraries

The University Libraries are at the center of one of the most potentially far-reaching developments in scholarly communication at UNLV:  the launch of the UNLV Gaming Press, a new initiative dedicated to issuing books—both electronically and in print—that share the work of UNLV faculty, highlight the rare and unique materials of Special Collections and provide outlets for the serious study of gambling.
