Welcome to Between the Lines, News from YOUR Research Library: Explore

Welcome to the second issue of Between the Lines, an e-newsletter created specifically with UNLV staff, faculty, administrators and graduate students in mind. I hope that you have all settled into the routine of your spring semester and have a bit of “me time” to explore how the UNLV Libraries partner to support your teaching and research needs.

In this issue, themed EXPLORE, we’ll take you behind the scenes of the Calvert Award for Undergraduate Research. For the past five years, this Libraries-sponsored award has encouraged research mentorships of undergraduates by faculty members as the students take their inquiry a step further. Last fall, we hosted an interactive open house at Lied Library to welcome our new faculty to campus, and we invite you to explore—as they did—many of the faculty-oriented services we provide.

As we celebrate the 25th anniversary of our Gaming Research Center, we offer another resource for exploration: find out more about the Center’s special collections through a lecture by one of our Gaming Research Fellows. In addition, this issue invites you to explore market research databases as our entrepreneurial students do.

Finally, I would like to thank you for your participation in our recent user survey. In this issue, you can read about the survey results and how we will use them to improve your experience with the UNLV Libraries.

Remember that in addition to Between the Lines, which is published twice a semester, we communicate new information weekly—including professional development events and trainings—on the Libraries’ News Blog (available at and daily via Facebook and Twitter.

Join with us as we work to fulfill our mission to define the new academic research library—bringing people and information together in innovative ways.

Warm regards,

Patricia Iannuzzi
