Top 5 Library Tips
1. The RebelCard is the key to accessing library services
- You must obtain your RebelCard from the RebelCard office during their open hours to:
- Access the UNLV Libraries electronic resources and services (journal articles, electronic books, course reserves) from the campus computer labs or from off-campus
- You must activate your RebelCard at one of the UNLV Libraries Circulation Desks to:
- Check out materials
- Use the computers in the libraries
- Borrow laptops (for library use only)
- You must set up a Library PIN to:
- Access Your Library Account (renew books, see what you have checked out, place holds)
- Use the self-check out machines
- Connect using remote access (use databases from home)
- Request materials using LINK+ (request a book the Libraries does not own)
- Access items in E-reserves (find items your professor wants you to read)
2. Where to go for help
- Stop by one of the two information desks (first floor and second floor of Lied Library)
- Use the Ask a Librarian service to ask you question via chat (Instant Messaging) or text
- Get help at one of the three branch libraries on campus
- Every college has a liaison librarian who can help you
- master library research strategies
- locate and retrieve the best resources for your topic
- recommend new library resources in your area of study
- Attend free Library Workshops
3. How to locate library materials
- Use the library catalog to locate books and other materials
- Use the Find Journals page to learn how to search for journal articles
- Computers are available on each floor of Lied Library and at the branch libraries
4. About library technology
- The library and computer labs are on different systems, so:
- You can't save your work to the library computers; it will be lost.
- Save all work to a portable storage device (flash drive, etc.)
- You may check out laptops for use in the library
- at the Media Desk on the first floor of Lied Library
- at the Architecture Studies Service Desk
- Wireless access is available at the UNLV Libraries, including all branches; register here
- Printing & Copying:
- Is available for a small fee, add cash to your RebelCard at one of the Value Transfer Stations on campus (2 are in Lied Library) or online
- Scanners are available
- on the first floor of Lied Library, next to the Research & Information Desk
- on the first floor of the Architecture Studies Library
- at the Curriculum Materials Library
5. Where to find study space at Lied Library
- The third and fourth floors are the quiet study areas
- Group study rooms are available on the first, third, fourth & fifth floors
- The rooms are first-come-first serve and not available by reservation
- The rooms are for groups of 3 or more
- You can borrow markers for the white boards at the Media desk on the first floor
