The primary goal of University Libraries offering the Student Assistant Professional Development Certificate Program is to support student assistants in the completion of their studies at UNLV.
How to Earn a University Libraries Student Assistant Professional Development Certificate
Students must complete 6 credits to be eligible for the certificate. Repeated courses do not count towards credit total.

Tutoring is available throughout the school year on the second floor of the Lied Library. Tutoring observes all University holidays.
Fall and Spring Hours:
Sunday: 2-8 p.m.
Monday-Thursday: 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Friday: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Summer Hours: Monday-Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Students are not Paid for...
Students do not receive sick leave, annual leave, holiday pay, and overtime pay (will not work more than 40 hours per week), and shift differential, retirement benefits, employment insurance.
FICA Alternative Plan
All State of Nevada employees hired after January 1, 2004 who is ineligible for participation in the Public Employees' Retirement System must participate in the plan sponsored FICA Alternative Plan.
Each affected employee upon employment must select a provider to administer his sponsored FICA Alternative Plan.
Students not enrolled in summer classes are automatically enrolled in the FICA Alternative Plan.
Understanding Work Study
Work Hour Limitations
When classes are in session it is recommended that a student assistant not work in excess of 20 hours per week. When classes are not in session (due to final exam week, semester break etc), a student assistant may work up to a maximum of 40 hours per week (see Students are not Paid for).

All student assistants are covered by worker's compensation insurance. If a work related injury occurs, the student employee must be referred to an approved health care provider.
All injuries, no matter how minor, must be reported to their supervisor and/or Security within 24 hours of the incident.
If you experience a work-related injury/illness report it to your supervisor for further instructions.
