Las Vegas City Commission Minutes

Collection is comprised of the typescript minute books of the
Las Vegas City Commission, the
governing body formed with the incorporation of Las Vegas in 1911.
The minute books chronicle all aspects of the city's early development
from laying of sewage and water lines to the issuance of gaming
licenses for the period spanning 1911-1958. Also includes one
volume of legal documents and three volumes of city ordinances.
Lotteries

This collection is comprised of lottery tickets, advertisements,
prize breakdowns and drawing schedules from around the world.
There are 3 lottery tickets dated 1714 and 1715 the proceeds of
which were to finance the cutting of a canal in Connecticut; an
announcement of a lottery to be held for household goods in 18th
century England; and several other lottery tickets and drawing
schedules from 18th and 19th century United States and Europe.
There is also included in this collection an undated deck of 25
cards called the "Hands of Poker" printed in London,
England, and a letter from the Postmaster General announcing a
new law making it illegal to mail lottery information dated in
1876.

book entitled Memoires de la Societe D'Histoire Naturelle de Paris
dated either 1799 or 1807. Inside the book are attached ads and

Stocker, Harold

The collection of Oscar and Mayme Stocker and their sons Lester,
Clarence, and Harold. The
Stockers settled in Las Vegas in 1911 where Mayme was the first
person to receive a gaming license in 1931 when she opened the
Northern Club. Collection consists of news clippings,
correspondence, and bank statements. The business and legal series
consists mainly of Harold's papers from 1930-1977, and includes
deeds, leases, business agreements, and Chief Hotel Court statements
and room accounts. There is also material dealing with family
history and their interests and activities, and political documents
which cover Harold Stocker's Republican Party activities from
1939-1976, including party publications, newspaper clippings,
