Supporting Special Collections

Special Collections and Archives is grateful to the many donors who have generously supported our work and helped advance our mission. We are able to achieve our most ambitious goals with contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations who are excited to invest in the talent, passion, and vision of our staff.

If you are passionate about history, libraries, and archives and would like to contribute, please contact Director Sarah Quigley at sarah.quigley@unlv.edu. Your support will help ensure the preservation of Las Vegas and Southern Nevada’s unique and irreplaceable history.

We welcome unrestricted gifts in support of our overall operations. You can also learn more about specific areas that would benefit from financial contributions by expanding the menus below.

Research fellowships

SCA currently awards between 1-4 Eadington Fellowships each year in support of research that utilizes our gaming collections. Our goal is to develop additional fellowships that promote research in our other collecting areas as well. Donors may contribute to the Eadington Fellowship fund or contact Director Sarah Quigley to discuss establishing a new fellowship.

Fellowships promote the use of SCA’s manuscripts, photographs, archives, and rare books. They provide financial support to students and scholars who are interested in conducting research in Special Collections. These are especially beneficial for graduate students and tenure-track faculty who may struggle to afford the cost of travel to archives.

Graduate assistantships and internships

SCA relies on student assistants to accomplish much of our work. Graduate assistantships and internships are important tools for training and mentoring new professionals and students interested in librarianship and the archival enterprise. Donors may contribute to SCA’s internship endowment or contact Director Sarah Quigley to discuss supporting UNLV graduate student employment in SCA.

Collections acquisition

Special Collections occasionally purchases books and manuscripts through auction or rare book and manuscript dealers. As we look toward building a robust rare book collection, the ability to purchase relevant volumes will become increasingly important. Support for collection acquisition is an important way to contribute to the long-term success of SCA.

Collections management and digitization

Collections accessioning, processing, and digitization are core functions within SCA, necessary for the accessibility and usability of the resources in our holdings. Support for the supplies, equipment, and staff required to complete this work helps us ensure the sustainability of these important programs.

Oral History Research Center

Special Collections seeks financial contributions in support of the long-term sustainability of the Oral History Research Center. The critical work of the OHRC enhances SCA’s holdings by capturing first-person narratives of the history of our region. Donations to the ORCH are a high-impact way to support our work long-term.

Other opportunities

UNLV Libraries and Special Collections and Archives leadership are available to discuss contributions in support of other initiatives that may resonate with you, including endowed positions and naming opportunities.
