Calvert Award for Undergraduate Research

The Calvert Award for Undergraduate Research recognizes undergraduate students who demonstrate sophistication and originality in research projects. Up to four awards will be given in two categories: Seniors are eligible for $1000 prize; Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen are eligible for $750 prize.

Winners' projects will be made permanently available online - for past winners see: http://digitalscholarship.unlv.edu/award/

If you are working on a research project in any subject area, please consider applying for this award!

Work completed for credit courses Summer and Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 is eligible. Research projects in all formats are welcome including research papers and posters, design projects/portfolios, fine arts performances, creative works in any medium, etc.

Projects can be submitted at any time until the deadline at 12 pm on April 26, 2013.

Graduate Student Workshop: Design Effective Research Assignments

Teaching assistants and other interested graduate students who attend this workshop will be able to articulate the skills that undergraduates develop through research assignments; analyze characteristics of effective research assignments; connect with the University Libraries to get assistance with assignment design, implementation, and evaluation.

Starting a Writing Circle: Or, How to Insure Consistent Progress in Your Writing

Do you have specific writing projects (large or small) that you can't quite get started? Or keep moving forward? Are you having difficulty establishing consistent writing habits? Would feedback from peers motivate you to write regularly? If you face these or other writing challenges, a writing circle may be the strategy for you! This workshop will introduce the concept of writing circles, suggest ways that writing circles can operate, and elicit your writing needs to begin the process of forming compatible writing support groups.
