Uniform Titles for Major Musical Works

Many musical works are known under translated titles or nicknames, but are listed under their original names (and in their original languages) in the Library's online catalog. If you are searching for works with a "generic" title (such as Sonata no. 5 in D, Symphony no. 7, op. 92, etc.) use the name of the form or performance medium as the title ("Symphonies," "Sonatas," "Trios," etc.). Please see our page on Principles of Music Uniform Titles for more information.

Below we have listed some of the more important works which you may have difficulty finding, as well as the headings under which they appear in the catalog. If you encounter other works which you are unable to find, don't hesitate to ask the Music Library staff for assistance.
