Reference Resources on Dance in the UNLV Music Library

Here are a few reference books that come in handy when doing research for our music classes and World Dance.

The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians is helpful when you need a complete definition of a musical term. This particular reference book is very helpful when you need to look up a composer because it gives information about their works and their life.

The Oxford Dictionary of Music is helpful when you need a more concise definition of a musical term. This book also gives a more brief description of composers.

The Garland Encyclopedia of World Music can be helpful when you are researching the music from whichever country you were given to present in World Dance. This book has an accompanying CD that gives samples of different music described in the book. Ask someone at the front desk to check it out to you.

The reference books are located against the wall near the front counter. Remember reference books cannot be checked out of the library, but you can always make a copy of the page you need to take with you.
