Collaborative Learning Center
The Collaborative Learning Center (CLC) houses the staff offices for the Instruction Department, a conference room and four instruction rooms. The conference room and the instruction rooms are named to honor historic mining towns of southern Nevada. They are the Tonopah Room, the Amargosa Room, the Pioche Room, the Rhyolite Room and the Eureka Room. All the instruction rooms have built-in drop-down screens and Smart board interactive whiteboards, sound systems, and instructor's workstations with projection capabilities.
The Libraries' Instruction Department are the primary users of the spaces. As a rule, the Collaborative Learning Center rooms may not be scheduled for classes, conferences, or meetings by the general campus community or non-UNLV affiliated persons. Some research or library related uses outside of typical sessions sponsored by the Department, may be permitted on a case-by-case basis.
Instruction Rooms
- Amargosa Room is the largest of the five rooms. The tables in Amargosa are a combination of trapezoidal and rectangular shapes that can be arranged into a variety of large or small groupings or in more traditional rows. The chairs stack and many of the tables fold for storage so the room can also be used without tables for receptions. Ports for electricity and connectivity to the library network are placed throughout the floors of the rooms.
- Eureka Room Houses the Libraries' Internet 2 access Grid Node. This node makes use of the three digital projectors, four video cameras and eight ceiling-mounted microphones with echo-canceling electronics, all controlled by a single computer running software supplied by in SORS.
The Internet 2 Access Grid is designed to allow UNLV faculty, staff, and students to video conference with colleagues and researchers around the word using Internet technologies.
- Pioche and Rhyolite Rooms are more traditional classrooms with 24 and 33 student desktop workstations respectively.
- Tonopah Room is a small conference room, which seats approximately 15 people.
