Requirements for Off-campus Access
Note that the libraries have a number of accounts that require authentication. Most of these simply require an activated Rebelcard barcode and a PIN.
- Have status as a currently enrolled/employed student, faculty, or staff member. Due to licensing restrictions required by publishers who produce electronic resources, off-campus access to the databases is limited to authorized users. Only currently enrolled students and/or currently employed staff or faculty of UNLV can access licensed databases from off-campus. Alumni are not eligible for this privilege.
-
Possess an activated UNLV Library Barcode.
New students must activate their RebelCard in person at the Lied Library Circulation Desk or at one of the branch libraries – Architecture Studies, Curriculum Materials or Music. The barcode located on the back of the card becomes your permanent library barcode. For more information contact the Circulation Department at 895-2111. Online education students should view activation requirements. -
Establish a Library PIN.
Your Library PIN will be provided when you activate your RebelCard in person at the Lied Library Circulation Desk or at a branch library service desk. For information on how to recover lost PINS visit the PIN help pages. -
Have Web access and Internet Explorer version 6 or later, Firefox version 1 or later, Google Chrome version 4 or later, or the most recent version of Safari.
You must be running Internet Explorer version 6.x or above, Firefox version 1 or above, or the most current version of Safari to connect from off-campus. Some databases only work with certain browsers. -
Have cookies and javascript enabled in your browser and any pop-up blocker software disabled.
Many of the databases and e-journals require that you have cookies and javascript turned on in your browser. Some use pop-up windows to display information. These settings are located under Tools-> Options in FireFox and under Tools->Internet Options in Internet Explorer.
Accessing databases
Once you meet all of the requirements simply click on the database you wish to use. You should see a screen asking for your library barcode and PIN.
If you have problems accessing resources from off-campus, try our Off-Campus Access FAQ, or use our problem report form to contact a staff member for assistance.
