UNLV Libraries Articles from Inside UNLV for 2001
Invisible Web and Designing the 21st Century Research Assignment |
September, 2001 This fall the University Libraries will offer a series of seminars designed to keep you up to date with information technology and resources crucial to you in your research and teaching. New this semester, we're offering sessions on the 'Invisible Web', the valuable collections of data and information buried beyond the reach of traditional search engines. Also new is our "Designing the 21st Century Research Assignment", a hands on seminar exploring assignment re-design that asks students to demonstrate both content competence and also basic information literacy- the ability to identify, access, evaluate and make effective use of information in its various formats. Other seminars offered include "Deterring & Detecting Plagiarism", "Ethnic Studies & Multicultural Resources", "Infotrieve Document Delivery Direct & Table of Contents Service", "Spotlight on New Resources", and more. For the full schedule and RSVP information, visit our departmental web site at http://www.library.unlv.edu/inst/ and click on the Faculty Seminar Series link. UNLV staff and graduate students involved in teaching or research support for their departments are invited to participate in the seminar series as well. The Libraries' Instruction department offers sessions for your students as well on topics such as "Evaluating Internet Sites & Pages" and finding books and articles using library tools. Schedule a class session with us and we can customize the session to address your research assignment. For more information, again, visit our web site. |
