xreferplus is a giant online reference library that provides you with access to a selection of reference books. xreferplus includes encyclopedias, dictionaries, thesauri and books of quotations, not to mention a range of subject-specific titles covering everything from art to accountancy and literature to law.

Search tips:

· Already know what kind of source to use, for example a language dictionary? It is better to choose a source first if you do. To search for a Spanish word first select bilinguals from the main page. Then select the Collins Spanish Dictionary, type the word you are looking for in the search box and click on search. From the search results click on the entry that matches your search to see the complete entry.

· To search for audio or image files select the advanced search feature. Under sort options select images in results preferred or audio in results preferred. That way the system will bring any entries with audio or image results to the top of the search results.

· Restricting searches to entry headings can help you narrow a search down. For example, normally, searching for mars will bring up a great many results: not all of these will be specifically about Mars but the term will be mentioned in the body-text of the entry. So to search just the headings of xreferplus, add h: before a search term. A search for h:mars will only return entries in the results that contain the word Mars in the entry heading.
